Course Introduction

The global shift toward low‑carbon energy systems has placed the Oil & Gas sector under increasing scrutiny to measure and manage its environmental impacts. As organizations work to align with sustainability targets, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) has become an essential approach for understanding emissions, resource use, and environmental burdens across the entire value chain. From exploration and production to refining and distribution, LCA provides a structured method to evaluate impacts at every stage of operations.

This Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) Training Course equips participants with a strong foundation in LCA principles and their application within the Oil & Gas industry. The course explores how LCA supports carbon reduction strategies, ESG reporting, regulatory compliance, and long‑term sustainability planning. Participants will learn how to identify emission hotspots, assess low‑carbon technologies, and integrate LCA insights into strategic decision‑making for a more sustainable energy future.

Key areas of focus include:

  • Understanding LCA frameworks, standards, and methodologies
  • Applying LCA across upstream, midstream, and downstream operations
  • Identifying environmental impacts and carbon hotspots
  • Supporting ESG and sustainability reporting with LCA insights
  • Using LCA to evaluate low‑carbon technologies and alternatives

Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to apply LCA effectively within the Oil & Gas sector. They will understand how to use LCA as a decision‑support tool for sustainability planning, carbon management, and environmental performance improvement.

Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamentals, purpose, and value of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA)
  • Apply LCA methodologies to Oil & Gas operations and processes
  • Identify environmental impacts across the full energy value chain
  • Measure and interpret carbon footprints and greenhouse gas emissions
  • Support ESG reporting and sustainability strategies using LCA findings
  • Evaluate low‑carbon technologies, renewable alternatives, and efficiency options
  • Develop LCA‑based frameworks to guide strategic and operational decisions

Training Methodology

This training course uses a practical, interactive approach designed to enhance understanding and real‑world application of LCA in the Oil & Gas industry. Participants will engage in discussions, case studies, and hands‑on exercises that demonstrate how LCA tools and techniques are used to assess environmental impacts and support sustainability initiatives.

The methodology combines expert‑led sessions with collaborative learning to ensure participants can confidently interpret LCA results and apply them to operational challenges. Through modeling exercises, scenario analysis, and group workshops, attendees will gain practical experience in building inventories, assessing impacts, and integrating LCA into strategic decision‑making.
